Foam Rolling 101

Foam rolling is a great way to increase blood flow and circulation through muscles that are tight or bound up.

Finding trigger points (sore or tender spots) in the muscles and focusing on those spots will greatly help increase ROM in stretches and increase muscle recovery time. Rolling on different planes of motion on the foam roller is great for targeting more trigger points and the more points you loosen throughout your body will help reduce injury, gain greater ROM, and increase circulation of blood through body and muscles. Finding deeper trigger points after using a foam roller often may become harder, you may want to get a tennis or lacrosse ball to get a deeper pressure into the muscular tissue.
